Description of Allocasuarina portuensis
Allocasuarina portuensis is a smooth barked shrub that typically has multiple main stems and upward reaching branches. The cones are small, often having a rounded top with a little nipple in the centre. The male flowers resemble strings of beads (moniliform).
Allocasuarina portuensis can sometimes be mistaken for Allocasuarina distyla which is also in the area, but the branchlets (pine needle like parts) of Allocasuarina distyla are usually distinctly stripy while the mature branchlets of Allocasuarina portuensis are more waxy and uniform in color. Allocasuarina portuensis can also be distinguished by its spreading or recurved teeth when compared to the erect teeth of Allocasuarina distyla.
Further description of Allocasuarina portuensis can be found on Plantnet.
